On September 17, 2011, at approximately 1345 hrs, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of the Riddle High School for a reported Missing Person. The subject, Mark Bosworth, was reportedly last seen on the night of September 16, 2011 around 2330 hours. Bosworth, a volunteer with the Cycle Oregon Event, was reportedly last seen leaving a booth on Main Street in Riddle. Bosworth has not been seen or heard from since.

Once on scene, Sheriff's Deputies interviewed witnesses and found no sign of foul play in the disappearance. Mr. Bosworth is from the Portland area and may not be familiar with the Riddle area. Early indications are that Mr. Bosworth may have also been suffering from some type of medical condition prior to his disappearance.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) Team were mobilized and responded to the scene. The incident was turned over to the SAR Team so search efforts could begin.

With the help from Cycle Oregon Volunteers, local Fire fighters and SAR members, a search party of approximately 40 people or more searched the surrounding area around Riddle High School and Main Street. Several tracking K9’s were also deployed during the search.

The search area included the surrounding Streets and neighborhoods along with approximately 3 miles of the Umpqua River. The search continued until after dark when it was called for safety reasons. Mr. Bosworth had not been located by the time the search was ended for the night.

The SAR Team will start searching the area again first thing in the morning when the lighting conditions allow.

Mr. Bosworth is described as 6’00”, approximately 180 lbs with grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a grey Hoodie style sweatshirt, black bicycle style pants, shoes and a hat.

Anyone with possible information regarding Mr. Bosworth’s location is encouraged to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
